SO THANKFUL
It’s finally here – one of my favorite holidays! I absolutely love thanksgiving. It’s such a special day that leads us to reflect upon all God has done!
We are sometimes blessed beyond our perception and it’s good to be able to stop our world and do something we are constantly urged to do daily in the word of God – be thankful.
Being grateful is especially important when we look to what is happening around us. God is constantly at work and interceding for us and for the millions suffering from oppression and exploitation around the world. It invigorates the hope within us to know Jesus is reaching lives even in places we cannot physically reach – and this is something to be thankful for.
I believe being thankful to God daily reminds us He is the One who is at work and who is our Leader as we work to rescue and restore lives. In fact, declaring our gratitude to the Lord is a way of saying, “We couldn’t have done this on our own!”
The fact of the matter is, there’s nothing we can accomplish without being firmly attached to Jesus and rooted in His love. There’s not one woman or child we can see set free if not for His saving power. There’s not one person we can see restored if not for His loving mercy and kindness. There’s not one breath we could take or one step we could walk without Him sustaining us, providing for us, and loving us.
If we realize this truth daily, we will have a thankful heart not only on Thanksgiving, but in the battles, in the trials, in the difficulties, in the hurt, in the struggles… All of which He uses to produce in us greater patience, endurance and perseverance – and a character that reflects His own. And also in the victories, the rescues, the miracles, the wondrous life moments that take our breath away, which are mere glimpses of an eternity with Him we are yet to reach. He is sovereign over us and worthy to be praised and glorified through it all. He is doing and will continue to do a mighty work within us and through us – so be glad! Rejoice! And Be thankful!
“Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever!” – Psalm 107:1
